At what age should you send your child to nursery school?

My son is two, I figured I would send him to nursery school when he was 4, kindergarten when he was 5, then off to first grade at 6.

My friends are all telling me he needs to go at 3…….? Is that a new thing?
I currently am working full time, and we have a wonderful babysitter that we LOVE and he is around other children everyday. But at what age should he be getting professional schooling?

Generally preschool starts at age 3. Then they have 2 yrs to get into the swing of school and a set schedule. All 3 of mine went to preschool at 3 and then kindergarten at 5 then from there. It worked for us. My son is now 17 so it's not a new thing.

Mine went at 6 months - loved it. I would say the earlier the better.

NEVER. Raise your own child. Why else would you have had one?

As far as nursery school goes, if you are talking about something that is a few days a week for just a few hours, then why not start at 3 years old? The social aspect is great for the kids and he will be even more prepared for real school when it's time.

All of my boys started nursery school at 3 because there are so many skills that you can only learn in a classroom setting. I was originally against it but their dad insisted. At first it was hard but when my children came home speaking Spanish, reading, using a computer, and completely ready for kindergarten my fears were eased. It was very refreshing to hear from their teachers that they were very prepared for school and as a result they are excellent students now. The one setback is they do pick up tons of germs but even with that they also develop a stronger immune system. Try letting him go a few hours a day and gradually increase it as gets older.

I think that 2 is a fine age to go to nursery school. If you think your child is ready for it…. SEND HIM!!! Don't losten to your friends if you know it is the right thing to do. Listen to your heart and maybe later you will be better than all of your friends. If you think he is ready just send him, I wouldn't worry about what your friends think.

If you stay at home 2 and a half to 3 years is the right time to get the child into schooling. Any earlier than that and you actually risk slowing the child's development as they lose the one on one interaction and constant education they receive from a parent. Any later though and they fall behind in social development and become too attached making the separation more difficult when you get around to it.
If you don't stay at home, earlier makes sense. Daycare is just glorified play time so being away from Mom or Dad isn't offset by education. Getting them into school earlier will supplement.
