at what age do children go to nursery school and how much does it cost?
Hi
we have a 8 months old girl and wanted to know what the options are that someone takes care of the child during the day, so that the mother can go to her work. From what age can children go to nursery school and how much does a cheap one cost per month? Thanks

Your child is now old enough to go to some nursery schools, you might have to check and find one for babies not toddlers but most will take care of both.
As for the price they can vary you will have to do some reserach.
good luck

You will probably find the best local answer through the Family Information Service (Formerly Children’s Information Service). There you will find a range of different child care options and you will be able to find out how much specific ones cost that you are interested in.
Basically though, day nurseries take babies from just a few weeks old.
You might also like to consider a childminder who will take care of your daughter in a homely/family type environment rather than an iinstitutionalised one.
Another option would be to employ a homecarer. You can find out more about this on the internet.
Finally, what about a nanny? This may not be as expensive as you might think and would certainly save you a whole lot of time in the mornings as you would not have to get your daughter ready, pack her little bag and take her to nursery, then repeat the performance at the end of your working day.
A good place to find out more about the nanny option is to talk to Graham or Naomi at National Nannies. They will be able to help you work through the options.
Just a thought though. Would you not prefer to stay at home? When you add up the cost of childcare, then deduct all the comings and goings from your wages at the end of the week/month, you may not be much better off.

Hello,
When it comes to deciding if you want to send your child to daycare you must know your motives. Is this a necessity because of both parents working, you want the child to have social interaction, you want early education, etc. Next your foremost option would be QUALITY. Your child’s best health , emotional, and physical well being is most important.
Weigh it out in pro and cons, what are the cost’s not just monetary but also emotionally on the mother and the child. Some center’s provide infant care for children such as yours and even younger, normally the younger the child the higher the cost. A person who cares for a child in their home is usually less expensive. Pick out a few places close to work or home and check them out. Some places will have a childcare referral service which you can use to get information from on the businesses. Make sure the person is licensed. Make several visits to get a feel for the place and the person. There are also programs depending on where you work that will offer to help pay for childcare cost, there are social programs which assist according to you income, but most importantly it is of the extreme necessity to do your homework. Cost again will depend on what type of program you decide on.
